You must pay all financial obligations to the College before registering for future courses and before transcripts, awards and credentials may be released. Financial obligations include, but are not limited to:
- Tuition and fees
- Books including Direct Digital Access (DOA) book/materials
- Student loans
- Library and parking fines
- Housing Fees
- Other program-related educational costs
If you have a balance due to the College, please contact Student Accounts to resolve your debt. We will discuss repayment options to avoid sending unpaid debts to a collection agency.
However, if you are an employee at an organization or business coordinating customized/contract training with 51³Ô¹Ï and you have an existing financial obligation, you will be allowed to attend training. This policy only pertains to credit and non-credit provided to an organization/business as part of customized/contract training and is not open enrollment for the general public.
Direct Digital Access (DDA)
Direct Digital Access (DDA) book charges are not applied until after your course begins. If you receive financial aid, please note that refunds are often issued before some classes start. As a result, you may receive a refund and still be charged later for DDA materials for the current semester. The same applies if you are paying out of pocket. Any outstanding balance on your account, including these charges, may result in a registration hold being placed on your account.
Other program-related educational costs
As a 51³Ô¹Ï student, you are required to cover the costs for books, tools, supplies, uniforms, travel, student activity fees and other educational items. Costs vary depending on the requirements of your Program of Study and individual needs. Cost estimates are available for each Program of Study under the Costs & Info tab on each program webpage.
Withdrawal, Drop, Refund Policy
If you have to withdrawal from a class or classes, you will want to know the requirements and procedures for receiving a refund.
If you are to receive any type of refund, electronic payment of refunds is the FASTEST, safest and most convenient method for students to receive refunds. If a student does not sign up for electronic payment of refunds, a check will be processed at the same time that funds are electronically transferred to other students. Depending upon the day of the week, holidays, and the speed of mail delivery, paper checks may take up to 10 days or more to reach the student. Checks will be processed off site and will not be available for pickup by students. Paper checks will be mailed to the student's current address on file with 51³Ô¹Ï.
External scholarships are scholarships awarded by organizations outside of 51³Ô¹Ï.
If you receive an external scholarship, you are responsible for telling 51³Ô¹Ï about
it. You
should:
- Notify the Financial Aid Office of the scholarship amount
- Give Student Accounts the scholarship information to ensure the funds can be handled correctly
- Include your name and student ID number, if available
After 51³Ô¹Ï processes the scholarship, the money will be credited to your student account. Watch for messages from Student Accounts, because you may need to sign or endorse a check before the scholarship can be applied. If your scholarship may not arrive before your tuition due date, contact the organization giving the scholarship and ask for an estimated delivery date. Then share that date with Student Accounts.
The IRS Form 1098-T is issued for each student enrolled and for whom a reportable
transaction is made.
- The 1098-T is an IRS form entitled "Tuition Statement" filed with the Internal Revenue
Service, reporting qualified tuition and related expenses during the calendar year. The
IRS requires eligible educational institutions, such as 51³Ô¹Ï, who
receive payment for qualified tuition and related expenses during the calendar year, to
provide this statement to the students and to the IRS. - Students, or the person who may be claiming the student as a dependent, may be able
to take either the tuition and fees deduction or claim an education credit on Form 1040
or 1040A. This form assists the in determining qualification for certain education-
related tax credits under the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997(TRA97) for the qualified tuition
and related expenses that were actually paid during the calendar year. - There is NO IRS requirement that students must claim the tuition and fees deduction or
an education credit. Claiming an education tax benefit is a voluntary decision for those
who may qualify. The primary purpose of the IRS Form 1098-T is to let students know
that 51³Ô¹Ï has provided required information to the IRS to
assist for those who may qualify. - For questions regarding IRS Form 1098-T, please contact the IRS or your tax advisor
for
further information. 51³Ô¹Ï staff are not able to provide tax
advice. It is the responsibility of the taxpayer to determine their eligibility.
51³Ô¹Ï contracts with ECSI to prepare 1098-T forms. You may visit the ESCI website () for your electronic 1098-T form. If no electronic consent has been provided to ECSI, a paper form will also be mailed via USPS by January 31st. You may contact ECSI at 1-866-428-1098 if you did not receive a form, need a replacement or have general questions about the 1098-T form. More information on navigating the ECSI website is located on the Hub.
