Our General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) offers a unique earn-as-you-learn experience through a strategic partnership between 51³Ô¹Ï, General Motors and GM dealerships. This two-year program combines classroom learning with hands-on training specifically on GM vehicles. You'll alternate between campus courses and paid work experience at a sponsoring GM dealership, gaining valuable industry skills. The program focuses on GM engine fundamentals, electrical systems, fuel systems, brakes, transmissions and computer diagnostics. You’ll be ready for immediate employment as a GM technician.

HIGHLIGHTS


Master GM Vehicle Systems

You will learn to diagnose, repair and maintain all major GM vehicle systems including steering, suspension, electrical, HVAC, engines and drivelines. This comprehensive knowledge will allow you to troubleshoot and fix complex issues across the entire vehicle.


Become an Engine Performance Expert

You will gain in-depth knowledge of GM engine performance systems, including ignition, emissions control and fuel systems. You'll also learn about alternate fuel technologies, preparing you for the evolving automotive industry.


Develop Technical Precision

You will learn proper inspection procedures, safety protocols and maintenance techniques specific to GM vehicles. These skills ensure you can complete repairs with accuracy and attention to detail, essential qualities for a successful automotive technician.

 

General Motors ASEP

The GM ASEP program combines classroom learning with real-world experience. Students complete two eight-week cooperative experiences at their sponsoring dealership, allowing them to earn while they learn. This hands-on approach means you'll apply classroom knowledge directly to actual customer vehicles

How much hands-on training will I receive in the GM ASEP program?


You will spend 60% of your time in the lab working on late-model GM vehicles donated by General Motors. You'll use special factory tools and online GM resources to gain practical experience with current automotive technology.

Does GM ASEP help with industry certification?


Graduates of our GM ASEP program receive credit for one year of the two-year requirement needed to become an ASE certified technician. This certification can lead to higher earning potential and greater career opportunities.

CAREER OUTCOMES

GM Certified Automotive Technician

A GM certified automotive technician diagnoses, repairs and maintains General Motors vehicles using specialized tools and computerized equipment. You'll perform complex troubleshooting on electrical systems, engines, transmissions and other vehicle components.

GM Service Consultant/Advisor

A GM service consultant or advisor serves as the primary liaison between customers and the service department. You'll use your technical knowledge to translate customer concerns into actionable repair orders, explain necessary services, and provide cost estimates.

GM Diagnostics Specialist
