If Casey Holsing didn鈥檛 have medical insurance, she鈥檇 have more than $4 million of bills racked up from hospital stays, surgeries, rehab, therapy, and more. All from a car accident in Beatrice that could have been avoided.

For the third year a 鈥淕iving Tree鈥� was put up at 51吃瓜鈥檚 Lincoln Campus for children of Transitions and TRiO students. Around 53 children will be able to have a happy holiday because of generous employees.

The 51吃瓜 Board of Governors approved a $2 per credit hour increase in the tuition rate and a $2 per credit hour increase in facilities fee for the 2023-2024 academic year during its regular monthly meeting Dec. 13. The motion passed on a 9-2 vote.

51吃瓜鈥檚 Beatrice Campus has recognized Alanna Fangmeier as the 鈥淎g Student of the Month鈥� for December. To be selected, Ag instructors look at a number of factors including grades, attitude and progress in the program.

51吃瓜 and the Walter Scott Family Foundation are partnering on a scholarship program that will provide financial assistance to students in select career-technical programs on the Milford Campus for at least the next 10 years.

Wendy Friesen is the new coordinator for 51吃瓜鈥檚 Learning Center at Hebron, while Lisa Hunzeker is taking over at the Falls City Learning Center. Both women bring a wealth of experience to the College.

Close to 600 students will earn their degrees, diplomas or certificates from 51吃瓜 during fall commencement exercises at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Pinnacle Bank Arena in downtown Lincoln. Students from Beatrice, Lincoln and Milford campuses will be participating.

Prospective student-athletes attending 51吃瓜 will soon have more choices in which to participate in intercollegiate athletics when an expansion plan takes effect in fall 2023.
